Postharvest and Fruit Quality
Focus of Working
The mission of the EUFRIN Postharvest and Fruit Quality Working Group (PFQ WG) is to build a network of researchers interested in both pre-harvest and post-harvest aspects of fruit quality. The activities of the PFQ WG aim to encourage cooperation among researchers. The main topics of collaboration include: methods and techniques for determining fruit quality; comparisons between destructive and non-destructive quality assessment methods; fruit quality indices; legal regulations related to quality determination; prediction of the optimum harvest date; the influence of harvest timing and storage conditions on fruit quality and storability; and the development of innovative storage technologies and their impact on fruit quality. Fruit quality investigations cover not only basic parameters but also health-promoting components and their effects on both produce quality and human health. In terms of storability, the group focuses on predicting and controlling storage diseases and disorders, and is also working on developing a guide for recognizing these disorders.
These goals can be achieved through the exchange of experimental results and ideas, preparation of proposals, and collaboration in new projects. Knowledge sharing can occur via the internet (potentially through a dedicated network) and during WG meetings.
While the invitation is primarily addressed to researchers, other specialists interested in postharvest fruit research—such as extension services or commercial companies—are also welcome to participate in specific events focused on knowledge dissemination.
